MOT test prices could rise to £80 in the next 10 years, drivers warned
Research is suggesting that the cost of an MOT could rise to £80 by 2034, if the current cost of living continues with rising costs as they are.
Coupled to that, drivers have been warned that MOT test prices could rise to £372 over the next 50 years.
Currently the maximum fee a garage can charge for a car MOT is £54.85 and £29.65 for a standard motorcycle, however, the rules and fees for motorists and motorcyclists could change due to the ongoing cost of living crisis and “exponential increases” in costs for garages. These factors lead experts to predict that the cost of an MOT could rise to over £80 per test by 2034. 2023 saw the cost of carrying out repairs increasing more and more for garages, leading to higher repair repair bills for motorists.
It’s expected that prices could rise still further and with it the costs of MOT’s because the current maximum will need to increase to keep track with the higher prices. The research suggests this increase could be exponential.
